75 years ago


Robert Black, a 1939 graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College, has been named coach and teacher in the high school at Trumann. Black, son of Mrs. E.T. Black of Conway, will begin work next month. He played football with the Teachers and also was a member of the track team.

50 years ago


Mayor Walter Dunaway announced at a City Council meeting Tuesday night that the Conway Corp. has purchased the site of the former Hotel Bachelor on Front Street for the city for $35,000.

The Council then talked about what to do with the property and decided to “think it over.”

25 years ago


Cole and Sue Farris of Conway are parents of a son, Nathan Joseph, born Friday (July 28, 1989) at Doctors Hospital in Little Rock. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 19 1/4 inches long. Grandparents are Beneva and William J. Farris Sr. of Conway and Joe and Virginia Rhea Gattinger of Forrest City.

On the third day of a three-day reunion, members of the St. Joseph Class of 1954 were still happy to be together as they lunched at Conway Country Club on Sunday.

There were 19 members of the original class, “But we’ve lost a few,” said Charles Nabholz.

The reunion was part of the annual St. Joseph’s Bazaar.
