The Faulkner County Singing Convention held its 61st session with the Holland community July 21, 22 and 23. All sessions were attended by large crowds and the program was crowded with good song directors.

50 years ago

(1964)

Robert D. Surratt, a native of Conway and a lead design airframes and system engineer with Ling-Temco-Vought Astronautics Division in Dallas, Texas, is on temporary assignment with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to assist in teaching a launch crew of the Italian Space Commission.

(1989)

Competing as members of the Hendrix Aquakids, Kirby Bell placed in the top 10 in five events and Joseph Jolly two recently at the Arkansas Swimming Inc. Invitational Meet at Searcy.

10 years ago

(2004)

Two Conway students graduated recently from Oklahoma State University.

Jonathan Thomas Reed received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and Kara Suzanne Williams received a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness.

A total of 2,449 students received degrees from OSU at the end of the spring session.

Rural Fire Program to host fire show Oct. 28

The Arkansas Forestry Commission is hosting the annual Rural Fire Protection (RFP) Fire Show on Saturday, October 28, in Greenbrier at 20 Industrial Boulevard from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. All Arkansas firefighters and families are invited to attend the annual event held to honor fire crews for their partnership in the suppression and prevention of wildfires.
