(1939)

Work of razing the old frame cottage, belonging to Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Dunaway on the corner of College and Oliver streets was begun today, and a modern six-room and two-bath frame residence will be erected on the same site. T.A. Graham has the contract for building. The residence will be completed as soon as possible.

50 years ago

(1964)

Lee B. Spencer Jr. of Conway has been named to the Dean’s list at Princeton University. His achievement is based on his work for the entire year.

25 years ago

(1989)

Thirteen teenagers from University Church of Christ returned to Conway last week after conducting a vacation Bible school in Lewiston, N.Y., located east of Niagara Falls. The group, led by Jim Bob Baker, associate minister of the church came to be known as “Baker’s Dozen.”

(2004)

Meghan Dayer, daughter of Phil and Donna Dayer of Conway, successfully recovered to stay aboard her horse, Hunter, while running in Junior Poles at the Arkansas Valley Horse Show Association Show held May 22 in Russellville. Meghan is currently leading in points in the Junior Poles Division for qualifying for the Arkansas State Championship Horse Show held Labor Day weekend at Barton Coliseum.

Council to hear appeal on homeless shelter

Soul Food Café Mission will appeal the Conway Planning Commission’s 5-3 vote to deny a rezoning and conditional-use permit request that would allow it to open a homeless shelter and hold church services at 1715, 1717 and 1727 S. Donaghey Ave.
