J.T. Harrison of Enola today announced as a candidate for county examiner at the election to be held by teachers at the courthouse next Friday at 10 a.m. Mr. Harrison has 15 years of teaching experience. He did his college work at Arkansas State Teachers College. The vacancy was created by the resignation of B.G. Harrison.

S-Sgt. Jimmy M. Newberry of Conway has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Preparatory School at MacDill Air Force Base at Tampa, Fla. He is a son of Mrs. Jessie Newberry of Conway. A graduate of Conway High School, he is married to the former Nellie K. Kessinger.

John Meazle and Charles Wright, both of Conway, recently were among 27 applicants who passed the National Council of Engineering Examiners test and have been registered by the Arkansas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. The test was administered April 14.

Donald Bates of Enola has been named a U.S. National Award winner in the mathematics and honor roll categories.

Bates, who attend, Mount Vernon-Enola High school, was nominated for the award by teacher Nancy Lively.

He is a son of Fred and Inza Bates of Enola and a grandson of Nova Sutton of Conway.

The family of the late Meredith Floyd has established a scholarship in her memory at their alma mater, the University of Central Arkansas, entitled the Meredith Susanne Floyd Endowed Scholarship.
