Martha Louise, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H.O. Weatherly, celebrated her first birthday anniversary today at the home of her parents on Faulkner Street. Martha Louise was born prematurely July 1, 1938, at the Memorial Hospital here. She weighed two pounds and 11 ounces at birth. When taken home by her parents on Aug. 28, she weighed five pounds and two ounces. The little girl now weighs 18 pounds and 14 ounces.

Jane Mobley is the new president of the Phi Delta chapter of Delta Beta Sigma sorority in Conway. The officers were installed recently and the others include: Janice Nixon, treasurer; Janiel Fortner, corresponding secretary; Lynn Ligon, vice president; and Pam Nobles, recording secretary. The sorority recently received three awards at a national convention in Mobile, Ala.

The Log Cabin Democrat’s “Yesterdays” column has a new compiler. Beginning with today’s column, Ruth Doyle is the new columnist, succeeding Mary Louise Jumper, who has retired from the job after 12 years.
Mrs. Doyle is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, but has lived in Conway most of the last 64 years, 32 of which she spent teaching in Conway schools.

Two Conway students made it to the final round in their categories of the National History Day competition, which was held June 13-19 at the University of Maryland.
Roni Flakes, a sophomore at Conway High School East, was in the final competition for senior individual performance, where she placed 10th in the nation.
Callie Criswell, seventh-grade student at Carl Stuart Middle School, was in the final competition for junior individual performance.
