(1939)

The Conway women’s quartet, composed of Mrs. Bert Woodruff, Mrs. Cecil Graddy, Mrs. Tom Moss and Miss Almira Tyler, left today for Dallas, Texas, to attend the Stamps-Baxter convention on the air tonight, which will be broadcast over KRLD from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

They were accompanied by Miss Theda Woodruff and Mr. Moss.

50 years ago

(1964)

The Fidelis Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church met Monday night in the Educational Building for a potluck supper. Hostesses were Mrs. William A. Glenn and Mrs. Frank Koon.

Justin Baker, a member of the Greenbrier Future Farmers of America, recently was a state winner of the FFA proficiency award for small animal production.

Baker raises and trains hunting dogs to sell.

(2004)

The new high school principal at Mount Vernon-Enola was introduced at Monday night’s school board meeting.

Rudy Beavers was hired recently to replace Irvin Fairfield, who left to become high school principal in the Concord School District.

Beavers came to Mount Vernon-Enola from Cross County, where he was high school principal, Superintendant Ronnie Greer said.

He has 26 years’ experience in education and his salary will be $63,000.
