A group of Boy Scouts from troop No. 71, Creed L. Echlin, scoutmaster, went to Camp Quapaw for an outing Sunday. Those going were Jack Echlin, Jimmie Edwards, Theodore Smith Jr., Doyne Gill, Lillard Lee Bolls, Pete Singleton, Edward Mitchell and Murphy Ford.

(1964)

New officers for 1964-65 were installed yesterday by the Conway Rotary Club.

Dr. Ben A. Lewis, retiring president, was succeeded by Frank Robins III. Earl F. Rogers, vice president; Larry MacNichols, secretary; and C.T. Ray, treasurer, are other new officers.

Abby Baxter, a senior and daughter of Richard Baxter of Conway and Shirley Owens of Baton Rouge, La., and Duke Marr, a junior and son of Mr. and Mrs. Con Marr of Conway, were among 12 Hendrix students selected to spend the 1989-90 academic year studying at Oxford, England.

Pauline Scaife was awarded a Modern Woodmen of America Hometown Heroes Award by local members of the fraternal financial services organization on June 7.

Scaife was honored for her work as a foster parent and for benevolent actions at her school.

In recognition of her efforts, members of Modern Woodmen’s 15669 camp (chapter) presented Scaife a certificate and awarded a $100 grant to Conway Women’s Shelter, the charity of her choice.
