The Conway Fire Department has not received an alarm since 9:45 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, it was said at the station today. Heavy spring rains have favored the fire fighters.

50 years ago

(1964)

Paul P. Faris of Conway was one of three photographers selected for top awards in the first Arkansas Photography Exhibition organized by the Arkansas Arts Center. The exhibition consists of 25 photographs by 14 Arkansas photographers.

Faris won a $50 award for an entry entitled “Evening.” Two other Faris photographers, “Ozark Barn” and “Mud Ripples,” were selected for the exhibition.

(1989)

Tharp and Nellie Ramsey of Vilonia are to be honored on their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception from 2-5 p.m. tomorrow at the home of Linda and Ervin Mize, their daughter and son-in-law. The Ramseys were married June 24, 1939, in Vilonia by the late J.F. Petty.

They are parents of five children, Mrs. Mize and Karen Varner, both of Vilonia, Nannette Ramsey of Fonatana, Calif., Sue Davis of Hot Springs and Sharon McGraw of Ashdown (Little River County). They also have 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George Baker and Nancy Kocourek, First Security Banks employees, presented Phyllis Davis of the March of Dimes a $1,713 check for the bank’s contribution and money raised by employees. Also at the presentation was Jay McDowell of Crews and Associates.
