Jesse Bryant Stone of Conway enlisted in the United States Navy at Little Rock yesterday. He will be sent to the naval station at Norfolk, Va., for training.

Paul M. Kennedy, a teacher at Guy-Perkins, is attending the Harding College School of Amer-Studies on a full scholarship received from the college.

Army Reserve Pvt. Robin M. Johnson, daughter of Janet L. and Melvin Barrow of Greenbrier, has completed basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala.

Pvt. Angeline Scaliatine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Scaliatine of Vilonia, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Heart disease in older women will be the focus of a research study by Leanne Lefler of Conway. Lefler is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences college of nursing. She was one of 21 nurse scholars chosen through a national competition to receive funding for study and research in geriatric nursing. She will receive a stipend, which will pay her salary for the next two years so that she can work solely on her research.

Judge approves $29.1M payout for cigarette lawsuit
