An enormous postal card, containing views of Conway, will be presented by the Young Business Men’s Association to Postmaster General Farley on his visit here tomorrow. The card will be on exhibit in a show window at Greeson’s tonight and until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Miss Marilyn Morris of Conway has been awarded an assistantship in speech at the University of Arkansas for next year.

The grant is for $1,000. She will be enrolled in some classes and also teach a speech class.

Miss Morris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Morris, is at Fayetteville this summer to begin work on a master’s degree. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arkansas State Teachers College, where she was named to “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.”

James Edwards of Central Industries Electric Co. Inc. of North Little Rock presented a plaque to fifth-grade teacher Debbie Ford, one of two Vilonia “Teachers of the Year.” Freed Duncan, district manager of Arkansas Power & Light Co., presented the other plaque to Vilonia High School business education teacher Bronnie Rose.

Two athletes, representing Independent Living Services’ aquatics team, placed high in swimming events at the recent state special Olympics in Searcy. Al Coleman won the 50-meter freestyle and was second in the 100 freestyle. Brittany Jutze was third in the 25 freestyle and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Their head coach is Carrie Crawford and assistant is J.D. Crawford.

On Memorial Day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country and preserve liberty and freedom. It was in 1971 when Congress passed the National Holiday Act which designated the last Monday of May as a federal holiday to honor those who died defending our country.
