Commencement exercises at Arkansas State Teachers College will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Ida Waldran Memorial Auditorium.

Degrees will ne conferred on 192 students.

Rep. Wilbur D. Mills of Arkansas’s Second District will give the commencement address. Dr. Silas D. Snow, president of ASTC, will confer degrees.

Ashley Brooke Sowell, three-year-old daughter of Keith and Janie Sowell of Conway, was the winner of the La Petite division of the spring pageant held recently at Enola. She is a granddaughter of Adron and Pearl Sowell and Billie Ford, all of Conway, and a great-granddaughter of Lora Ford of Conway.

Russell Gillion, lead press man at International Paper, presented Conee Corning-Banks, administrative assistant with the Faulkner County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and Kirt Bierbaum, executive director, with a $2,000 check to be used for water safety gear and lifeguard training. The money was donated through a grant sponsored by the IP Foundation.

Arkansas lawmakers advance junk food ban for food stamps

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas would ban food stamps from being used to purchase soda or junk food under a proposal endorsed by a legislative committee Tuesday, joining a list of Republican-led states hopeful the Trump administration will allow such restrictions to the federal program.

Wal-Mart to add about 10,000 retail jobs in the US

NEW YORK — Wal-Mart plans to add about 10,000 retail jobs in the U.S. as it opens new stores and expands existing locations. The world’s biggest retailer said Tuesday that its plans will also generate about 24,000 construction jobs.
