Containing 80 feet of floor space, a new cold storage vault recently installed by M.M. Hiegel & Son grocery will accommodate a large stock of produce.

The vault, according to Ted Hiegel, is powered by a Kelvinator freezing unit and is valued at $1,200. For the present the contents of the vault are kept at a 40 degree temperature.

Mrs. A.D. Bailey was installed as president of the Twentieth Century Club at a luncheon last Friday at the Conway Country Club.

Other officers include Mrs. James W. Slaughter, vice president; Mrs. Fred Tackett, secretary; Mrs. Liston Hager, treasurer; Mrs. Dee Halbrook, historian; Mrs. Alton McKinney, reporter; and Mrs. Dean W. Blackburn, parliamentarian.

Anna Marie Barrett of Vilonia High School has been awarded a place in the Chancellor’s Leadership Class at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The position entitles her to a full-tuition scholarship.

Miss Barrett is a daughter of Ed and Nan Barrett of Conway.

Local businessman Fletcher smith III, owner of Fletcher Smith’s Jewelers, was named chairman of the board of directors for Conway Corp.

John smith was named vice chairman and local accountant Barbara Money was named secretary.

Sports Roundup: Sugar Bears reach Southland semifinals

The University of Central Arkansas got its revenge on No. 7 McNeese when the Sugar Bears defeated the Cowgirls 3-1 on Friday in Southland Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
