Miss Dovie Russell Haynes entertained in honor of her mother, Mrs. Nona Haynes, Sunday evening with a buffet supper at her home on South Boulevard. The following guests were present: Mrs. L.C. Florence, Miss Rosa Walker, Dr. Mary McKinney, Miss Laura Haynes, Mrs. James Stewart and Mrs. Jack Covington.

Sandra Woodward was valedictorian of this year’s graduating class at Enola High School. Miss Woodward is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Woodward. Mary Hoggard was the class salutatorian. Miss Hoggard is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Hoggard.

Mark Alan Guffey, son of Dr. and Mrs. Edward Loren Guffey of Conway, was among the 2,300 students who received degrees from Duke University during commencement exercises held May 14. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

A come-and-go retirement celebration will be held 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, for Vilonia Elementary School teacher Susan Arnett.

She is retiring after 29 years in education.

All current and former students, parents and coworkers are invited to attend.

Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports regional tournaments begin April 28

JACKSONVILLE – Student athletes from across Arkansas will gather at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Shooting Sports Complex in Jacksonville each weekend, beginning April 28, to take their shots at the regional and state championship tournaments of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program.
