A rattlesnake with 16 rattles and a button was killed by a highway engineering crew in the Cadron bottoms north of Conway early today.

The snake was five feet and three inches in length. C.B. Smith, Gerald Martin and Layton Gray were with the crew killing it.

Members of the Greenbrier 4-H Club recently planted shrubbery at various places in the community as a community project. They were assisted by a representative of the Arkansas Forestry Division. Those who participated included Pam Halsey, Debbie Lyman, Andrea Crownover, Jamie Lyman, Alan Crownover, Elizabeth Martin, Vicki Pelletier, Garth Crownover, Anita Lyman, Michael Lyman, Freddie Dunk, Kenny Dunk, Tommy Graham and Sue Caruthers.

Scott McDermott of Conway finished 20th Saturday in the Long Crossing 50-mile Trail run at Maumelle State Park.

McDermott finished in 9 hours and 29 minutes.

Of the 48 people who began the race, 41 finished.

Conway High School basketball standout Jessica Brown signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Arkansas-Little Rock while her parents, Lou Ann and Theodore Brown, watched during a ceremony earlier this week.

Arkansas girl found dead after mom, great-uncle killed

MENA (AP) — One of two Arkansas siblings reported missing after their mother’s body was discovered in a creek was found dead on Friday, a day after another relative was found dead, and teams are still searching for the other child, investigators said.
