Conway gymnasts have success in Junor National and trampoline and tumbling

Gymnasts from Sonshine Academy in Conway had success in Junior Olympic regional and trampoline and tumbling events.

Jake Fisher competed at the Region 3 Men’s Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas and was 16th out of 30 national qualifiersin the Level 9, 13-14 division. He competed at the 2014 Men’s Junior Olympic National Championships at Long Beach, California lst weekend.

The six male gymnasts who qualified to the regional championships were Fisher, Blake Hopkins, Jay Krisell, Cullen Odom, Haden Ray and Michael Rickels. In the individual competition, all six Sonshine gymnasts placed in the top 20 on individual events or the all-around in their level and age group.

In the Level 6 Division Sonshine Academy finished sixth.

In the 10-year-old age group, Ray placed 19th on the floor, third on the pommel horse, ninth on the parallel bars and high bar, and sixth in the all-around.

In the age 11 division, Cullen Odom placed 16th on the high bar, and Jay Krisell placed 13th on the floor, 10th on the pommel horse, and 20th in the all-around. In the 12-year-olds division, Blake Hopkins placed 17th on the rings and 14th on the pommel horse.

In the Level 9 division. Rickels placed 15th on the parallel bars and Fisher was 11th on the pommel horse, 12th on the parallel bars, and 16th in the all-around.

The boys team coaches are Bubba Corbitt, Michael Stage, and Jordan Bell.

Joshua Hicks competed at the Arkansas State Tumbling and Trampoline Championship which was held at Sonshine Academy. His performances in tumbling and double mini trampoline, qualified him to compete in the Level 8 division of the USA Gymnastics Championships for T&T at Louisville, Kentucky, in July.
