Twelve Conway college students, six each from Arkansas State Teachers College and Hendrix College, are listed in the fifth edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities,” recently distributed.

The Teachers College students honored are Alvin Flynt, Frances Cole, Florence Morris, Virgil Schoeppel, Ray K. Hart and Carl Childress.

The Hendrix list includes Weldon Rainwater, James Short, John Bayliss, Ralph Hillis, James Christian and Billy Kennedy.

50 years ago

(1964)

Kenny Scott of Conway is the best teen-age driver in Arkansas.

The 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Scott, won the Arkansas Safe Driving Rodeo Saturday at Magnolia. He was accompanied by James Prior, vice president of the Conway Junior Chamber of Commerce.

He won the Conway contest two weeks ago.

Scott, a junior at Conway High School, will go to Washington, D.C., in July to compete in the national contest. The winner gets a Comet convertible and a $2,000 college scholarship.

(1989)

Eric Dunn of Vilonia has been awarded a four-year, full-tuition academic scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas, to begin in the fall semester.

He is a son of Jane Dunn of Vilonia and Floyd Dunn of Conway. He is a senior at Pulaski Oak Grove High School.

Katrina Hobbs and her son, Daniel Hobbs, 5, tried their hand at fishing for the first time on Saturday at a fishing derby sponsored by Focus Learning Academy.
