The Sideline: Mayflower highlights in state track meet; upcoming golf tourneys


Justin Bailey won the 100 and finished second in the 200 meters Tuesday in helping Mayflower’s boys to a sixth-place finish in the 3A state track meet at Morrilton.


Bailey won the 100 in 11.3 and was second in the 200 in 22.88.

Madison Chambliss was second in the 400 in 51.57.

The Eagles won the 4x100 relay in 42.98.

Elkins won the boys team title with 74 points. Prescott was second with 60. Mayflower with sixth with 38.

Mansfield won the girls title with 113 points.


Registration deadline is May 24 for the Conway Regional Golf Classic on Monday, June 9, at Centennial Valley Country Club.

Cost for the four-person scramble is $1,000 per team and includes breakfast, lunch and a tournament shirt.

There will be two rounds of two flights each with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The tourney will also feature a putting contest, a hole-in-one contest, a long drive contest and a closet-to-the-pin competition.

The tourney is a fundraiser for the Conway Regional Health Foundation’s patient care and community outreach projects.

The Optimist Youth Junior Golf Qualifying Tournament will be held Saturday, June 7, at Pine Bluff Country Club.

Boys and girls, ages 10-18, will be flighted by age. The top qualifiers will earn an expense-paid trip to the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
