Although only a few drops fell at Conway, heavy rains were reported is eastern and northeastern portions of Faulkner County Sunday night. In some places roads were temporarily flooded, the reports said.

Bob Swartz, Al Hiegel, William J. Dean and Edgar Tyler left today for Shreveport, La., where they will attend the annual convention of District 34 of Optimist International.

All are members of the Conway Optimist Club. The Conway group plans to return home Sunday.

Jameka Sullivan, 10-year-old daughter of Austin and Deleta Sullivan of Conway, won the most beautiful and best personality titles in her division and the overall most beautiful title in the America’s Miss springtime Sweetheart Pageant, held April 29 in Jacksonville. Jameka is a granddaughter of Clementine and the late Odie Lee Sullivan and is a fifth-grader at Julia Lee Moore Elementary School.

Johnny Vaughn of Quitman took perhaps the season’s most unusual turkey gobbler with the large bird carrying eight beards. Double beards are unusual, and three beards, sometimes four beards, are extremely rare.
