Conway’s baseball team assured itself of a 7A/6A Central title and positioned itself for a No. 1 seed in the 7A state tournament with a 6-5 victory Tuesday night over Little Rock Catholic at Wampus Cat Field.
It’s the third conference championship in the last five seasons for Conway.
After North Little Rock and Little Rock Central, 7A/6A East teams, split a doubleheader Monday, Conway can wrap up a No. 1 seed from the Central Conference with a victory Friday at Greenwood. The 7A teams from the East Conference are included in the Central for state tournament pairings.
The Cats won a tightly contested game on Quenton Wyrick’s leadoff double and Cade Jones’ bases-loaded single.
Conway had seven hits, two each by Jones and Wyrick. Jacob Adams had three RBIs.
Conner Williams was the winning pitcher in relief of Bubba Carter.
Sam Buczek singled in Calvin Hodges for the decisive run in the eighth inning Tuesday as Central Baptist College defeated Arlington Baptist College, 5-4, in the first round of the National Christian College Athletic Association baseball regional at Edmond, Oklahoma.
Buczek had two hit and two RBIs.
Brady Brashier also had two RBIs and two hits, including a home run.
Kody Gill got the win for CBC. He pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings, striking out two, walking none and giving up three hits.
