Mrs. R.W. Robins, one of the regional directors of the New York World’s Fair, has received an invitation to attend the opening, April 30, to hear the president of the United States.

50 years ago

(1964)

Jay Wasson defeated Roger Starkey for president of the Conway Junior High School student council in an election last week. Seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in the voting. Other officers include Pat Havens, who won over Judy Koon and Betty Etheridge for secretary; Dinah Ludwick, who was unopposed for treasurer; and Susie Carter, who defeated Mark Harriman for vice president. The group is in North Little Rock today and tomorrow for the annual state convention of Junior High School Student Councils. Mrs. Percy Darr, sponsor, accompanied them.

(1989)

Army National Guard Pfc. Randall W. Nelson, son of Gerald W. and Norman J. Nelson of Conway, has completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Nelson received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy and justice, first aid and Army history and traditions.

Nelson is a 1978 graduate of Conway High School.

H.G. Foster and Cindy Pruett were honored by former Sen. Stanley Russ during a recognition ceremony for Foster and Pruett. Foster won the 2004 Public Citizen of the Year and Pruett won the 2004 Social Worker of the Year.
