The first crate of strawberries produced in Faulkner County this year was sold for $36 today. The strawberries were grown by L.G. Gatewood, who lives six miles south of Conway.

The berries were purchased by J.A. Hogan of Hogan’s Grocery at 1364 Mitchell St.

Gatewood said last summer’s drouth and last winter’s severe cold damaged this year’s crop. He hopes to pick 100 crates from a three-fourth acre patch. Gatewood got 200 crates from the same area last year.

The first crate of strawberries in 1963 was brought to Conway by Gatewood on April 20.
