Mrs. E.L. Cowger delightfully entertained at supper last evening at her home on Caldwell Street in honor of the Hendrix College students who are members of her Sunday school class of the first Baptist Church. The table was beautifully appointed and a delicious menu was served. Covers were placed for Ann Pittard, Frank Robbins, Douthouet Payne, Dorothy Webb, Allen Robbins, Thomas Gray, Helen Trotter and Mildred Ethridge. Sr. and Mrs. E.P.J. Garrott were special guests.

(1964)

Construction is under way on a 32x64-foot addition to the Faulkner-Van Buren Regional Library at Conway. The addition will ease crowded shelf space, Mrs. Dula H. Reid, librarian, said. Starkey Bros. Construction Co., submitted a low bid of $7,378.65.

The money will come from the county’s general and library funds, W.D. Ketcheside, chairman of the library commission, said. The library has 3,000 volumes, including many on loan to other libraries in the counties.

Nine Conway students have been chosen to attend Arkansas Governor’s School for the Gifted and Talented this summer at Hendrix College.

The students chosen were Robin Fairless, Angela Jackson, Sandy Simon, Carl Olds, Gretchen Rapp, Darcy Webb, Jared Young, Amy Oswalt, and Jeremy Sullivan.

Robert Jones of Russellville and Al Coleman of Conway presented Conway Jaycees President Phillip Seaton an appreciation plaque for the organization’s efforts with Special Olympics will be hosting a regional competition on Saturday at Wampus Cat Stadium in Conway.
