Sports Club plans special celebration

The Arkansas Sports Club will have its 100th meeting Monday, and executive director Mike Harrison is ready to celebrate.

The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. (an hour earlier than usual) and will be at the Centennial Special Events Center.

All 99 former speakers at the club, which began in January 2006, have been invited to attend and will be honored. The meet-and-greet will begin at 11 a.m.

Log Cabin sports columnist David McCollum was one of those speakers.

The late Don Nixon, a club member who died last month, will be given a special recognition and his widow, Betty, will be a special guest.

An announcement will be made of the latest inductees into the Arkansas Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.

The special guest speaker will be Doug Clark, former baseball coach at the University of Central Arkansas and an assistant at the University of Arkansas.

The lunch, free to members and the public, will begin at 11:15 a.m. The program will begin at 11:45 a.m.

CCS plans benefit golf tourney

The eighth Conway Christian Athletic Booster Club scramble golf tournament will be Monday, April 28, at Centennial Valley Country Club.

Registration information for the tournament, the biggest fundraiser of the year for the CCS athletic department, is available at conwaychristiansports.com.

Among the prizes to be given away: US Pizza dinner for four, vacation getaway, Kobe Japanese Steakhouse Dinner for two, Dominos Pizza, free coupons, $100 certificate to Mike’s Place and a new set of golf clubs.

Pin sponsorships are available for $200.
