The smell of wild onions mixed well with the hamburger and hot dog smoke coming off the barbecue grill.

A big crowd gathered on the Willow Street Apartments lawn Thursday. They watched the little kids jump in the jumping place, hug, kiss and squeeze the fuzzy baby ducklings and chicks, and take turns trying to dunk the big kids in the dunking booth.

It was a gathering of neighbors who took turns holding babies, who got chairs for the older folks and who shared gossip — just being neighborly.

All were waiting for the big event, and Easter egg hunt.
