St. Joseph's Nichols fires no-hitter against Conway Christian

Nash Nichols tossed the first no-hitter in recent St. Joseph history Monday as the Bulldogs romped past Conway Christian in a baseball game at Curtis Walker Park.

Nichols (3-1) struck out six and walked three in the six-inning game, shortened by the mercy rule.

“Nash had a little bump in the third inning, but got stronger as the game went on,” said coach Luke Davis. “I’m proud of him. No-hitters at any level are big accomplishments. The defense did a good job behind him.”

Dylan Schrekenhofer was 4-for-4 with four RBI, a double and three runs scored for the Bulldogs (5-4, 4-0). Nichols went 2-for-2 with a double. Britt Stroth was 2-for-3. Jacob Lampe was 1 for 3 with three runs scored.

Mark Moyer, a redshirt freshman from Russellville who missed the 2016 season with an arm injury, went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out four to record UCA’s first complete game of the season to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a run-rule, 10-0 victory New Orleans University in the runner game of the three-game series Sunday at Bear Stadium.
