The World Champion New York Yankees baseball club passed through Conway on a special Missouri Pacific train at 6 a.m. today. The Yankees were en route from Tulsa to Little Rock, where they oppose the Travelers this afternoon and tomorrow.

(1964)

Navy Ensign James H. Owens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Owens of Conway, received his designation as a naval aviator March 10 from commanding officer, Capt. William C. Dixon, during ceremonies at the Ellyson Air Landing Field, Pensacola, Fla. He also received his “Wings of Gold.” A graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College, Owens entered the Navy in June 1962.

Krista Knitting, daughter of Louis and Barbara Knitting of Conway, has been selected for membership in the Sousa National High School Honors Band to perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Departmental Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

Miss Knitting, a member of the Conway high School band directed by Mickey Siler, plays the French horn.

The Conway Christian sixth-grade boys basketball team recently won first place in the Arkansas Private School state tournament. Team members are Luke Beard, Wes Mathis, Will Wooten, Ben Campbell, Jeremy Jacobs, Daniel Sims, Zac Hendricks, Jonathan Watson and coach Michael Clanton.
