T.A. Graham, contractor, has completed construction of a sleeping porch at the residence of Maj. Norman P. Williams at the corner of Clifton and Duncan streets. The home is owned by Mrs. G.W. Adkisson.

Chris and Kevin Hester of Conway are parents of a son, Benjamin John, born Friday (March 24, 1989) at Conway Regional Hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 5 1/2 ounces, and was 20 1/2 inches long. Grandparents are Donald and Brenda Hester and Maurice and Patty Moix, all of Conway. Mr. and Mrs. Hester also are parents of another son, Drew.

The Toad Store, located in the Old Ice House building on Oak Street, opened today in a ceremony befitting the world’s emporium on all things toad.

Brian Ratliff, who is in his fifth year as toad master, led a group of VITs (very important toads), including Mayor Tab Townsell, Sen. Gilbert Baker, Conway Fire Chief Bart Castleberry and Conway Police Chief Randall Aragon, in a spirited, if somewhat off beat, dance performance of the “toady-woady.”

On Memorial Day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country and preserve liberty and freedom. It was in 1971 when Congress passed the National Holiday Act which designated the last Monday of May as a federal holiday to honor those who died defending our country.
