Leon Cato, an outfielder, and Harley Glover, first baseman, both of Greenbrier, left today to join the Jacksonville baseball club of the East Texas league. Jimmie Zinn of North Little Rock is manager of the Jacksonville team.

50 years ago

(1964)

Members of the Hendrix Aquakids relay teams who recently helped capture the Arkansas AAU Championship for 11 and 12-year-old boys are Eddie Anthes, Johnny Bumpers, Don Shock, Tommy Courtway, and Steve Connor. The last four broke the 160-yard relay record and young Anthes teamed with Connor and Courtway to win the 160-yard free-style relay. Young Courtway also broke the record in the 100-yard back-stroke event. The meet was held Saturday at the Little Rock YWCA.

Dr. Randal D. Carter of Santa Fe, N.M., deputy director of the eyecare division of the Albuquerque area Indian Health Service, met March 17 with Dr. C. Everett Koop, U.S. surgeon general. Dr. Carter, a commander in the U.S. Public Health service, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill E. “Tebo” Carter. He is a native of Conway, a 1965 Conway High School graduate and a former student at the University of Central Arkansas.

K.K. Shadrach of Conway, competing for Sonshine Academy, won three of four individual events on the way to an all-around state gymnastic title last weekend in the level 6, 9-year-old division.

Shadrach won bars, beam, floor exercises and was second on vault in winning the all-around title with 35.325 points.
