75 years ago


Dr. and Mrs. Kirk T. Mosley of Conway have gone to Nashville, Tenn., to take physical examinations before the Presbyterian board of foreign missions. They expect to return to their medical missionary work in China in August, after a furlough of nearly two years. Dr. and Mrs. Mosley spent about five years in the Chinese field. They returned to the United States soon after the first Japanese invasion in 1937.

Eight girls will compete tonight in the third annual Miss Arkansas State Teachers College Pageant at Ida Waldran Memorial Auditorium. Gay Nichols of Little Rock is the reigning Miss ASTC. Contestants include Margo Dunaway of Conway, Lois Evans of Crossett, Susan Cross of Little Rock, Terri Robnett of Stuttgart, Charla Ray of Booneville, Judith Holland of North Little Rock, Patricia Carey of Pine Bluff and Lillian Feldman of Helena. Winner of the pageant will compete in the Miss Arkansas contest at Hot Springs in July.

Mary Smith of Conway was honored on her 99th birthday Tuesday at a dinner hosted by Wilma Credit of Conway. Born March 15, 1890, in Perry County, Mrs. Smith is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harris and is a member of Mount Zion Church of God in Christ. Twenty-nine people attended the dinner.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s Beta Eta Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently inducted 33 new students, including 10 from Faulkner County.

The Faulkner County students include: Conway — Laura Casey, Kristan Cooper, Matt Garner, Andrea Gates, Dee Hardy, Mandie Holliman, Donna Moody, Jared Rogers and Allen Yarbrough; Mayflower — Lindsey Clements.
