N. Dakota added to UCA weekend slate

The weekend baseball series with the University of Central Arkansas and Illinois State have added North Dakota for a six-game series of games.

UCA will play North Dakota at 3 p.m. Friday, then Illinois State will take on North Dakota about 6 p.m. at Bear Stadium.

Saturday’s schedule includes: UCA vs. North Dakota, 11 a.m.; Illinois State vs. North Dakota, 2:30 p.m.; UCA vs. Illinois State, 5:30 p.m.

Sunday’s schedule: Illinois State vs. UCA, noon.

Cassar, Setzler lead UCA 1st-day effort

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Brooke Cassar and Conway’s Erika Setzler went 1-2 in the women’s 5K in record-setting fashion on Wednesday at the 2014 Southland Conference Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Cassar, a sophomore from Woonona, New South Wales, Australia, finished in a time of 17:04.84. Setzler, a senior from Conway, was right behind in 17:09.76. Both times shattered the old school record for 5,000 meters. Cassar and Setzler also finished first and third, respectively, in the SLC Cross Country Championships last fall.

Cassar then teamed with freshman Marine Lecart and juniors Jordan Chadwick and Khadijah Smith to finish second in the distance medley relay in a school-record time of 11:53.39. UCA’s men’s team of freshman Grant Williams and juniors Connor Ryan, Powell Bryant and Jonathan Burgess finished fourth in the DMR in 10:10.43, also setting a school record.

Lecart of Waterloo, Belgium, qualified first in the women’s mile run with a time of 4:59.90. Senior Jordan Chadwick of Bryant had the best time in qualifying in the women’s 800 meter run, a time of 2:14.74.

Sophomore Corentin Louis from Fratin, Luxemborg, Belgium, qualified third in the men’s mile run in a time of 4:16.06.
