Alcus and R.L. Cook, sons of F.E. Cook of Conway, left today in a new passenger bus for Gravelly, Ark., where they will operate a bus line along Highway 28 and other roads in Yell and Scott counties.

50 years ago

(1964)

The first football game Elijah Pitts ever saw, he played in.

Pitts, now with the Green Bay Packers, spoke yesterday at a meeting of the Conway Lions Club at Tommy’s Restaurant.

The 210-pound halfback reviewed his life as a school boy in Conway and his climb to the professionals from Pinestreet High School and Philander Smith College in Little Rock.

Steve Patrick, a Conway native, recently became managing partner of Voiceworks, a Little Rock-based commercial audio production company.

Patrick was director of marketing and communications for the University of Georgia center for Continuing Education before joining Voiceworks.

(2004)

Faulkner County Retired Teachers Association President Carol Powers presented a certificate and gift to Mirian Scott for her 25 years of service to the local unit. Scott, an elementary teacher, retired from the Conway School District in 1979 and joined the association the same year.
