Mayflower girls win first game in district

Mayflower’s senior girls won their first-round game in the 2-3A tournament at Little Rock Episcopal Collegiate with a 61-43 victory over Episcopal Collegiate.

Jessica Webb and Emily Hampton both scored 16 points for the Lady Eagles. LonJanae Wyatt scored 10 points.

Conway Blue

The Conway Blue boys team defeated Bryant, 43-34, Wednesday night in the first round of the Central Arkansas Junior High Tournament here.

Gentrell Taylor led the Blue with 13 points. Darius Tate added eight. D.J. Henson had seven and Destin Macon, four. Erik Webster had two.

Semifinals were Thursday night.

UCA softball team hosts tournament

After 11 games on the road against tough competition, the University of Central Arkansas softball team finally gets to play at home this weekend. the UCA Invitational, a round-robin tournament involving five other teams with 12 games, that continues through Sunday.

The schedule for the Bears:

Friday, 6 p.m.: UCA vs. Alabama State

Saturday, 3:34 p.m.: UCA vs. Drexel

Sunday, 11:15 a.m.: UCA vs. South Dakota State

Sunday, 3:45 p.m.: UCA vs. Western Illinois

Hendrix sets record in 24-4 victory

The Hendrix College men’s lacrosse broke the school record for goals, assists and points as they rolled to a 24-4 victory against the University of Dubuque at Warrior Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors (2-1) scored 24 goals with 18 assists for 42 points. They also took the second most shots (65) and picked up the second most ground balls (69) in program history. Hendrix also caused 17 turnovers and took 42 shots on goal. They were nearly perfect by going 16-of-17 on clear opportunities and were 5-of-8 in extra-man opportunities.

Hendrix freshman attacker Carson Boone and senior midfielder Cameron Millstone both tied the school record, already held by Millstone and Ben Nelson, with 10 points in the game. Boone had six goals, one off the school mark, and four assists and Millstone had five of each. Sophomore attacker Patrick Rogers scored four times sand freshman Cody Eckes had three goals and three assists. Freshman midfielder Patrick Munn added three goals, junior Patrick Diamonon had a goal and two assists and freshmen Jason Blatt and Alex Ortenstone chipped in a goal each. Sophomores Travis Rabun and Joe Takacs both assisted a goal.

Hendrix will host Centenary College of Louisiana on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Warrior Soccer Field.
