(1939)

Dr. and Mrs. Robert L. Campbell entertained with the second of a series of bridge parties for members of the Hendrix College faculty Saturday evening, at their home on Hunter Street.

High score prizes wore won by Miss Katherine Gaw and Paul Page Faris. Individual cherry pies with ice cream and coffee were served at the conclusion of the games.

(1964)

The St. Joseph Pups bounced Wonderview, 50-41, Wednesday night in the District 5 North tournament here.

The Pups led by Phil Dayer’s 25 points, built up a 50-33 bulge in the fourth quarter. Wonderview was able to cut the margin against St. Joseph reserves.

(1989)

Kevin Scott McDermott of Conway qualified for the Boston Marathon yesterday with his finish in the Louisiana State Marathon at Shreveport.

McDermott, who runs in the 25-29 division, finished 16th overall among 300 runners in a time of 2:57:54. He was second in his division.

Sheila Whitmore has announced plans to seek re-election for Ward 4, Position 2 on the Conway City Council.

Whitmore, human resources coordinator for Counseling Associates Inc., is a graduate of Conway High School and attended the University of Central Arkansas. Her parents are Theodore Bunting Sr. and Emma Bunting. She and her family are members of Sinai Church of God in Christ.

Her husband, Jerry Whitmore, is principal of Bob Courtway Middle School. Their daughter, Brittany, is a freshman at Xavier University in New Orleans.
