Faulkner basketball roundup: Vilonia girls near conference title; Also Conway, Greenbrier girls and St. Joseph tournament

VILONIA — Vilonia’s Lady Eagles moved within a game of clinching the 5A-West title Tuesday with 43-16 victory over Clarksville.

Vilonia led 11-5 after one quarter and increased the lead to 26-7 at the half. Vilonia increased the lead to 31-9 after three quarters.

Vilonia’s post player, Sydney Wader, had 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. Audrey Moran added nine points and a game-high five assists. Cassidy McNespey chipped in seven points and Carly Whitehead five points.

Vilonia will travel to Alma on Friday.


Conway’s girls won their second game in as many days Tuesday and also recorded their 20th victory of the season with a 74-51 victory over Little Rock Parkview.

Jordan Danberry led the Lady Cats (20-5, 7-3) with 20 points. Alexis Tolefree added 16, Asia Willard 15 and Hailey Estes 10.

The Lady Patriots fell to 11-10, 4-7.

In the boys game, Parkview (21-1, 11-0) used a trapping defense to force turnovers and the Wampus Cats out of their offense on he way to a 79-39 romp.

The Patriots led 22-7 after a quarter.

Guard Daryl Macon scored 21 points for Parkview. A.J. Burton added 10 for Conway (12-9, 4-7).

Conway teams play Friday at Fort Smith Southside.


MORRILTON — Morrilton edged Greenbrier’s girls, 47-45, in 5A-West basketball Tuesday night.

Kory Westerman led Greenbrier (13-11, 6-5) with 18 points. Autumn Russell added nine.


The 5-2A district tournament opened Tuesday at the St. Joseph Family Activity Center with four games.

In girls play, Conway Christian surged past Bigelow, 57-11, and Quitman downed Western Yell County, 59-41.

In boys play, Western Yell County eliminated Conway Christian, 74-60, and Bigelow downed Quitman, 54-38.

The tournament resumes Friday with four games.

In girls play, Hector takes on CCS at 4:30 p.m. and St. Joseph plays Quitman at 7 p.m.

In boys play, Hector plays Western Yell County at 5:45 p.m. and St. Joseph plays Bigelow at 8:15 p.m. Finals are Saturday night.
