Mrs. Opie Hartje Jr., who has been employed in the Faulkner County agent’s office for some time, was given a surprise “handkerchief shower” by the girls in the office at her home on Caldwell Street Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Hartje and son will leave Saturday for Searcy, where they will make their home. Mr. Hartje travels for the Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company and his headquarters will be in Searcy.

Mrs. R.H. Loesch entertained the Gleaners Sunday School Class of the First Church of the Nazarene on Thursday night. Mrs. Jack Dell opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Ruby Boydston presented the devotional. Mrs. John W. Jackson, president, presided. Mrs. Dell and Mrs. Della Smith were prize winners. The hostess was given a surprise birthday handkerchief shower. Mrs. Loesch and the co-hostesses, Mrs. Zora Dempsey and Mrs. Sam Thomas, served Jello topped with whipped cream and nuts and mints.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Kemper of Vilonia are parents to their first child, a son, Jody Charles, born Wednesday (Feb. 8, 1989) at Doctors Hospital in Little Rock. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and was 21 inches long. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles “Tony” Rodgers and Mr. and Mrs. Harden Kemper, all of Vilonia. Pauline Rodgers in Ingram, Texas, is a great-grandparent.

Alderman Andy Hawkins has announced he will seek re-election to the Conway City Council, Ward 1, Position 1.

Hawkins is completing his 10th year on the council.

He is an Allstate Insurance Agent. His family includes his wife, Kim, and daughter, Meg.

The Conway City Council will consider rezoning properties, reclassifying a city position and rebidding a project during its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Russell L. “Jack” Roberts District Court Building.
