(1939)

A tornado that swept through the northern part of Faulkner County last night did several thousand dollars worth of damage to property. Reports reaching Conway today indicated damage was done to houses, barns, outbuildings and other property from Shady Grove on the western border of the county northeastward to New Home and Quitman. Principal damage, however, was caused in the Republican and Guy communities.

No one was injured. Several families, however, went to storm cellars during the night.

Cheryl Johnson, sophomore at Vilonia High School, is sweetheart of the Vilonia chapter of Future Farmers of America.

Miss Johnson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Johnson of Vilonia.

She will represent the chapter in the spring at the annual Beebe Junior College Sweetheart Contest to be held during the college’s Agri Day Festivities.

Steve Gilbert, a longtime resident of Conway, has been recognized as star technician for the month of January by Smith Ford.

Once again for the ninth year, Steve Gilbert, won first place in Zone Technical Knowledge testing.

Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Bill Lampe accepted a donation of $10,000 from Arvest Bank President and CEO Jim Cargill during the bank’s recent unveiling ceremonies. Also watching were Pam Kalz, Mark Long and Pat Murphy.
