Faulkner basketball roundup: Vilonia girls have big second half to overtake Greenbrier

VILONIA — Vilonia’s girls had two completely different halves Tuesday in a 55-46 victory over Greenbrier.

The Lady Eagles (17-3, 5-1) were quickly put on the ropes as the Lady Panthers jumped to a 10-0 lead, then increased that to 18-5 in the first quarter before Kelly Teer’s 3-pointer reduced the lead to 10.

The Lady Eagles narrowed the deficit to 25-17 at halftime.

“We showed tremendous heart and determination in the second half,” said coach Alvin Riley. “We increased the intensity and gained the momentum.”

The Lady Panthers held a 15-10 rebound advantage at the half. Vilonia outrebounded its rivals, 22-9, the second half.

Audrey Moran scored 13 of her 23 points during a three-minute span in the third quarter as an 18-3 run gave Vilonia a five-point lead.

The Lady Eagles increased the advantage to 12 in the fourth quarter before settling for the nine-point victory.

McKenzie Morris added 12 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Hannah Schnebelen added 10 points and five assists, and Sydney Wader had seven points and six rebounds.

Vilonia teams host Shiloh Christian on Friday.


Conway White defeated Conway Blue in two junior high boys basketball games.

Kameron King had 16 points and Junior Williams 13 in a 52-37 victory for the White (8-6, 3-1) in the ninth-grade game.

Conway White (11-1) won the eighth-grade game, 42-24. Blake Bradshaw and Brooks Tipton each scored 10 points for the White.

Sports roundup: UCA baseball, tennis, Hendrix baseball

Mark Moyer, a redshirt freshman from Russellville who missed the 2016 season with an arm injury, went the distance, allowing just five hits and striking out four to record UCA’s first complete game of the season to lead the University of Central Arkansas to a run-rule, 10-0 victory New Orleans University in the runner game of the three-game series Sunday at Bear Stadium.
