Arkansas State Teachers College announced today the Delta State Teacher College basketball team of Cleveland, Miss., has been booked for two games with the Bears at Conway Feb. 23 and 24. The Delta team defeated the Bruins twice last season and finished high in the S.I.A.A. tournament at Murray, Ky., and the collegiate tournament in Kansas City.

50 years ago

(1964)

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Seay of Conway announce the engagement of their daughter, Ellen Marie, to Frederic E. Wagner, son of Mrs. Ernestine Wagner of Dallas, Texas.

Miss Seay graduated from Conway High School in 1959 and attended Arkansas State Teachers College. She is employed as secretary to the administrator of the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

Mr. Wagner is a graduate of the University of Texas. He is president of Eldorado Oil and Gas, Inc.

The wedding is planned for early spring in Dallas.

(1989)

The Conway Diamonds gymnastic team earned second- and third-place team awards last weekend at the Hot Springs Gymfest.

The Class IV girls team finished second. The Class IV boys team was third.

10 years ago

(2004)

Rick Gill, College Square maintenance director, and Vance Strange, athletic director for the University of Central Arkansas, presented Barbara Isom with the University Connection Award. Isom, who lives at College Square, received the award for her contributions to the community which includes volunteering at Florence Mattison Elementary School, the Conway civic League and the UCA Friends of the Library.

Sports roundup: UCA volleyball and Hendrix basketball

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team reached Sunday’s Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament championship with a 3-2 (25-19, 25-20, 24-26, 20-25, 15-9) win Saturday over No. 3 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
