The Sideline: Delph earns Player of Week honors; Four coaching staffs for All-Star Week

Delph named Player of Week

Former Conway High star Micah Delph, a junior at Ouachita Baptist University, has been named men’s basketball player in the week in the Great American Conference.

Delph tied the OBU single-game record and set the GAC single-game mark with 10 3-point field goals in the Tigers’ 87-81 win at Northwestern Oklahoma State. He scored 15 straight points during a 3:26 stretch of the second half. He went seven-of-nine from beyond the arc in the second half.

He followed up with a 24-point effort against Southwest Oklahoma. For the week, he went 13-for-21 on 3s.

All-star staff named for four events

The coaching staffs for football, volleyball, cheer and dance were announced Tuesday during a news conference at the University of Central Arkansas, which will again host the games this summer.

This summer’s game will mark the 59th year of All-Star competition for football and basketball.

Head coach for the East football squad is Tom Sears of Hoxie. His assistants will be John Fogleman of Little Rock Catholic, Steve Hampton of Nettleton, Benji Mahan of Mountain Home, Gary Moody of Gosnell, Dustin Prescott of Des Arc and Jeremy Parmer of Hoxie.

Head coach for the West will be Cody McNabb of Morrilton. His assistants are Perry Escalante of Rogers Heritage, Scott Hyatt of Booneville, Greg Kendrick of Charleston, Scott Neathery of Benton, Mark Taylor of Hector and Zach Watson of Morrilton.

Head coach for the East Volleyball squad is Angie Donner of Paragould. Her assistants are Tracey Brown of Atkins, Lindsey Leonard of Mountain Home and Julie Tubbs of Jonesboro Westside.

Brad Lyle of Mena will coach the West volleyball team and will be assisted byLeigh Ann Back of Jessieville, Candi Bailey of Magnolia and Brandy Chumley of Benton.

Cassie DeSpain of Greene County Tech will serve as the head coach of the East All-Star cheer squad. CCarrie Taliaferro of Greenwood will assist.

Susan Renfrow of Nashville will serve as the head coach of the West All-Star cheer squad, assisted by Melissa Myers of Pea Ridge.

Leslie Doss of Cabot is the coach East All-Star dance squad with Kris Reed of Russellville her assistant.

Jeannie Wilson of Rogers Heritage will serve as the head coach of the West All-Star dance squad. She will be assisted by Chelsea Massey of Bauxite.

The Arkansas High School Coaches Association Clinic will be held June 25-27, at UCA.
