Twenty-one Conway High School football players of 1938 were awarded jackets and gold footballs at a special assembly at the high school auditorium yesterday afternoon. Jackets to 14 letter men and miniature footballs to seven reserves.

The jackets are royal blue with leather sleeves and service stripes in the blue and white letter.

Miss Theda Woodruff, 1938 queen, was also given a jacket. Her jacket is blue with white leather sleeves and a white letter with the word “queen” knitted in the letter “C.”

(1964)

Jack Thompson of Conway has joined the Arkansas Department of Education.

Thompson began work last week at the Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock.

He owned and operated Thompson’s Men’s Store in Conway before he sold the store to Houston F. Goode last September.

The Vilonia School District’s Board of Education replaced two teachers at a special meeting last night whose resignations were accepted at the Jan. 9 regular board meeting.

Sherry Jernigan will replace Mary Sisson as a high school science teacher and Michael Bull will take over for David Daugherty as junior and senior high school band director.

Kyndal Clower, Jessica Stanley, Lindsey Hargues and Tobie Jarman performed in the Vilonia Eagle Twirlers Christmas program held recently at Vilonia Elementary School. The Eagle Twirlers is a group of young ladies in grades 1st through 6th. The group is coached by Carol Dixon and performs at several school functions throughout the year.

Bielema maneuvers to get receiver on scholarship track

ROGERS - From Arkansas coach Bret Bielema’s address to the press before joining some of his assistants golfing among former Razorbacks and Razorback Foundation members at Monday’s Northwest Arkansas Razorback Club event at Shadow Valley Country Club, it was learned the Razorbacks have added a receiver but won’t have one of their new scholarship defensive backs practicing when preseason drills commence Thursday.
