That there will be at least one contested position in the municipal Democratic primary election set for Feb. 7 was indicated today when two candidates paid their fees to Committee Secretary Clide Donnell and qualified to run for alderman of the Fourth ward. They are Vonnie M. Harmon, barber, and David Ward, bus manufacturer.

Mr. Donnell said the only other candidate who has thus far paid in his fee is Mayor B.G. Wilson, candidate for re-election.

A giant two-story house at 1054 Spencer St., built a few years after Conway was founded, was destroyed by fire about 9 o’clock Friday night in a spectacular blaze visible for miles.

The house, owned by Major Lewis, was unoccupied and in a rundown condition.

Conway was founded in 1879 and the house was erected during the 1880’s.

Don't skew Conway's historical record

Like Conway's Wikipedia website has done. Conway was founded in 1871, not 1872 as Wikipedia states, not 1879 as you've stated here. Faulkner county was established as a county April 12 1873, and Conway was designated the county seat on Sept 19 1873. The meticulous research done by the 1986 Faulkner County Historical Society, cannot be disputed. If it didn't happen when Guy W Murphy Sr said it happened, then (by golly) I can assure you it never ever happened.

If you want Miss Vivian (Hogue) to verify these dates. She may call the phone number she's alway's called to confirm (with her now spiritual historical guide)... I'll answer and give her resources and page numbers.
