Lt. and Mrs. Felix A. Balmaz were married Dec. 21 in Immaculate Conception Chapel in Elmhurst, Ill. The bride is the former Leslie Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Clarence Brown of Elmhurst. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Charles Balmaz of Conway. Lt. and Mrs. Balmaz are living in Arlington, Va., where he is attending an Army school.

Scott Montgomery of Conway has been awarded the Citizen of the Year award by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

The award was given for dedication to the efforts to preserve the right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution, according to committee officials.

Five generations of the first-born son in the Smith family recently converged. Lionel Smith held his great-great-grandson, Joseph Trevor Smith. Others members present were L.A. Smith, Lionel Smith’s son; Hershal Smith, Lionel’s grandson; and Jacob Smith, Lionel’s great-grandson.

Arkansas lawmakers advance junk food ban for food stamps

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas would ban food stamps from being used to purchase soda or junk food under a proposal endorsed by a legislative committee Tuesday, joining a list of Republican-led states hopeful the Trump administration will allow such restrictions to the federal program.

Wal-Mart to add about 10,000 retail jobs in the US

NEW YORK — Wal-Mart plans to add about 10,000 retail jobs in the U.S. as it opens new stores and expands existing locations. The world’s biggest retailer said Tuesday that its plans will also generate about 24,000 construction jobs.
