Sherrill C. Benton of Conway, who until recently was connected with the unemployment compensation division of the state labor department, yesterday was appointed chief reading clerk of the senate for the 1939 session of the Arkansas legislature. Mr. Benton, who is a graduate of the Arkansas State Teachers College, served as a clerk in the house of representatives in 1933.

County Judge T.D. (Tom) Reedy today announced he will seek re-nomination in this year’s Democratic primaries in July.

Reedy, 60, is serving his third term as county judge.

(1989)

Debra Robinson, executive director of the Faulkner County Senior Citizen’s Program, presented Estylee Anderson of Conway with a birthday cake in celebration of her 100th birthday yesterday. Mrs. Anderson said her mother, Martha T. Jackson, lived to be 102. She said she had no secrets to share on living a long life except this advice: “Live a good, clean life.”

Lonnie Waldner of Conway accepted a check for $500, which he won as a door prize during the Habitat for Humanity of Faulkner County’s “Homes for the Holidays” tour. Presenting the check was Bob Hapner, executive director for the local Habitat chapter; Scott Brooks, and Pam McDowell Brooks.
