The Girl Scouts met Monday afternoon in the annex of the First Methodist Church. At a court of honor meeting Virginia Shaw was elected chairman and Rachel Mitchell secretary. At the investiture ceremony Marjorie Hartje, Virginia Shaw and Octavia Lee Donnell were given Scout pins.

50 years ago


Raymond Evans, 30, of Conway, Wednesday joined the Conway Fire Department as a hoseman. There are now eight regular firemen on the force. Evans will be on duty three days a week on a 24-hour schedule.

Kathy and Bill Hambuchen of Conway admired their new son, William Joseph III, Monday at Conway Regional Hospital. Will, the first baby born at the hospital in 1989, was born at 4:47 a.m. Sunday and weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces. His grandparents are Lynn and Barbara Vann and Betty Hambuchen and the late William Joseph Hambuchen Sr., all of Conway. His great-grandparents are Helen S. Brockett, Bertha and the late A.J. Hambuchen Sr., Mavis Spear and that late Jack Spear and Alma Vann and the late John Vann. Mr. and Mrs. Hambuchen have two other children, Kristan, 6, and Lora Beth, 2.

The first baby of 2004 born in Faulkner County was slow to get started, but she won the race.

Cinnamon King of Conway gave birth to her fourth child — and first girl — at 11:31 a.m. Friday at Conway Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. King and her husband, K.J., named the baby girl Kalayna Marie King. She weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and had a head full of hair.
