W.D. Cole’s 1932 model Ford coupe, reported stolen last night from an alley at the rear of Mr. Cole’s seed store, was located this morning parked in front of the post office.

(1963)

Mrs. Lewis Thompson entertained the Xi Alpha Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority with an annual Christmas party on Dec. 17. Gifts from secret pals were exchanged from a miniature chimney outside the door. Dessert and coffee were served from tables decorated in a Christmas theme.

(1988)

Linda Davis and Martin Shell are to be ordained to the office of elder in the Presbyterian Church and, with Bob Carter and Ruth McNeilly, are to be installed to the Season of First Presbyterian Church, class of 1991.

Those retiring from the Session are Bill Conner III, Shirley Henderson and Sharon Lessenberry. Also retiring is Jim Williamson, who recently moved from Conway to Van Buren.

Corey Brady, a sixth-grade student at Mount Vernon-Enola Elementary School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Dec. 15 and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship.

Second runner-up was Megan Ivy, a fifth-grade student. Third- and fourth-place winners were Matthew Warden and Amber Hodge.
