Mr. and Mrs. Garnett McDonald, who live two miles north of Enola, have been awarded a certificate of merit in a “plant to prosper” contest sponsored by the Memphis Commercial appeal. The farm item which the sponsors seek to improve include “living-at-home,” diversified farming, soil conservation and home improvement.

The Conway High School Chapter of Future Tradesmen of America has chosen Janie Short as its sweetheart for 1963-64. Miss Short is a junior. She serves as treasurer of the school’s chapter of Future Teachers of America. She will represent the FTA in a state contest to be held in Little Rock. Miss Short is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I.B. Short.

Pfc. Elizabeth V. Rodriguez, daughter of Marian and Benny Rodriguez of Conway, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Pfc. Rodriguez is a 1975 graduate of Beth Eden Baptist High School in Denver and a 1981 graduate of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas.

Pvt. Karen L. Leach, daughter of Mary A. Breeden of Enola and Conrad F. Mitchell of Little Rock, has also completed basic training at Fort Jackson.

She is a graduate of Enola High School.

Army Staff Sgt. Allen R. Decesaro is deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The sergeant, a forward support signal supervisor with six years of military service, is normally assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C.

He is the son of Jim and Eva Decesaro of Conway.

Decesaro is a 1996 graduate of Conway High School.
