(1938)

Two women’s teams of the Arkansas State Teachers College tied for first place in the College of Ozarks tournament at Clarksville last week. The men’s championship also was annexed by a Teachers College team.

One women’s team was composed of Misses Maunelle Waggoner and Betty Heiligers, both of Conway, and the other of Misses Louise Meacham of Monroe, Ark., and Dena Rae Jones of Conway.

The men’s team was composed of Coy Nixon of Pine Bluff and Charles Patillo of Monticello.

(1963)

Twenty-five members of the Conway Junior Civic Club met last Wednesday in the home of Mrs. R.W. Meriwether for its annual Christmas wrapping party. They brought food and clothing which they packaged for distribution to needy families. Mrs. J. Sterling Burton, Mrs. Ken Sparrow, Mrs. Amos Palmer and Mrs. Clayton Lamey served as co-hostesses.

Marine Pvt. Jeffrey D. Bray, son of Joe D. and Brenda D. Bray of Conway, recently reported for duty with 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Bray’s wife, Michele, is a daughter of Gene and Genie Blumenkemper of Greenbrier.

Bray is a 1986 graduate of Conway High School and joined the Marines in April 1988.

The Conway Christian High school girls basketball team defeated Word of Outreach on Friday, 50-37.

Constance Tullis led in scoring for CCS with 24 points, 18 of which came in the second half, while Ashley Blair added 16. Amanda Price contributed 10 as well. In rebounding, Blair led with 10, and Kate Pinkett had six.
