(1938)

Net earnings of the Bank of Quitman were the highest in its history, Vice President and Cashier Ben F. Clark reported to the stockholders at their annual meeting. In addition to paying a dividend the bank passed $1,200 to its certified surplus account.

50 years ago

(1963)

Conway had a deficiency of 17.15 inches of rainfall in 1963 Bill Johnson, weather watcher at the Station here, said.

The total precipitation amounted to 34.53 inches and normal is 51.68 inches.

There was a deficiency during eight of the 12 months of the year and in two others the rainfall was less than half-inch above normal.

(1988)

An eerie calm prevailed and allowed the imagination to roam as Grandview Heights Drive seemingly disappeared into a dense fog. The moisture and warm southerly flow of air passing over the colder ground and water surfaces caused the moisture to condense, producing a thick fog.

Pierce Botanicals Inc. recently held a ribbon cutting by the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. In attendance were Lee Elliott, Mark Dennis, Oscar Pierce, owner, and Candace Miller. Pierce Botanicals is located on Highway 89 in Mayflower.
