75 years ago

(1938)

A doll exhibit will be held at the armory Thursday, in connection with the dinner given by the Woman’s Auxiliary of the First Presbyterian Church. The business and professional women’s circle of the auxiliary has made an extensive collection of foreign dolls, character dolls, antique dolls and modern, commercial dolls. A beautiful doll, donated by the local Penney store, will be given as a prize.

50 years ago

(1963)

An addition to the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church doubles the seating capacity of the auditorium. The building was dedicated Nov. 17. The rev. Lemuel G. Parks, vicar, said the $25,000 addition included a 60-foot spire and bell tower, choir vesting room and complete new furnishings. Funds for the project were furnished by churches in the Arkansas Diocese to “Provide facilities for the many Episcopal college students in Conway,” the Rev. Mr. Parks said. The capacity of the new auditorium is 160.

(1988)

W.D. “Dutch” and Lois Rowlett of Greenbrier celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Dec. 1 at Toad Suck Inn. Mr. and Mrs. Rowlett were married Dec. 1, 1948, at Russellville. They have four children, Mike and Larry Rowlett, both of Conway, Pat Rowlett of Memphis and Tim Rowlett of Greenbrier, and six grandchildren.

Conway High swimmer Shannon Murphy signed a letter of intent with Drury University of Springfield, Mo., while her parents, Denise and Joe Murphy, sister Brianna, 11, and coach Paul Blair looked on.
