Conway Christian to host first basketball tourney

Seven boys and 10 girls teams from throughout the state will be part of Conway Christian’s first basketball tournament, which will begin Monday.

“We are really excited. We have a quality field of teams and should have some very competitive games in both brackets,” said Michael Carter, athletic director.

In the boys field, Sacred Heart (Morrilton) is the top seed and will receive a bye. The second seed is West Fork High School and it will play sevent seeded Conway Christian. McCrory is the third seed and will play Academics Plus (Maumelle). Pangburn is the fourth seed and will play Woodlawn (fifth seed).

On the girls side of the bracket, Little Rock Central is the top seed. The Lady Tigers will play the winner of Woodlawn (ninth seed) and host Conway Christian (eighth seed). West Fork is the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of North Pulaski (seventh seed) and Academics Plus (10th seed). Sacred Heart is seeded third and will play No. 6 seed McCrory, while Episcopal Collegiate School is seeded fourth and will play Pangburn (fifth seed).

“Looking at the tournament, it’s wide open on both sides,” said CCS girls coach Jeremy Carson. “I look forward to seeing some great games, and I encourage everyone to come watch some very good basketball next week.”

The tournament is sponsored by OrthoArkansas.

3:45 – Game 1: North Pulaski vs. Academics Plus (Girls)

4:55 – Game 2: Conway Christian vs. Woodlawn (Girls)

6:05 – Game 3: Pangburn vs. Woodlawn (Boys)

7:15 – Game 4: Episcopal vs. Pangburn (Girls)

8:25 – Game 5: McCrory vs. Academics Plus (Boys) 

Tuesday

4 p.m. – Game 6: Sacred Heart vs. McCrory (Girls)

7:45 – Game 9: West Fork vs. Winner of Game 1 (Girls)

Thursday

4 p.m. – Game 10: Winner of Games 4 and 8 (Girls)

6:30 – Game 12: Winner of Games 6 and 9 (Girls)

Saturday, Dec. 14

5:45 – Game 15: Boys Consolation Game

7:00 – Game 16: Girls Championship Game

8:15 – Game 17: Boys Championship Game

Saturday’s basketball games in the St. Joseph Classic have been postponed.

“We will monitor the weather to see when we can make up the games,” said Chris Kordsmeier, St. Joseph athletic director.
